Happy 'Valumtimes' Day!
Posted By SLK on Tuesday, February 15, 2011   { 2 Comment(s) }
After a super charged 2 day school trip to D.C., Kat was back home on Friday and the rest of the weekend (ok, most of it!) was spent preparing for Valentine’s Day at school.
There is a rule in school (for both Kit and Kat) that you are not obliged to give out valentines but if you do decide to, then you have to give one each to the entire class – Kat was not very happy with this as at the age of 11 you don’t really want to write out valentines to boys unless you really want to! But since her friends were going to hand them out anyway, she felt she must do so too...however the main argument was not that, it was over the type of valentines – Kat wanted to buy them but she did not want to spend her own money – how cheeky is that? Imagine getting pocket money every week and then asking us to spend money for her friends’ valentines??
It sounded hugely ridiculous and when she did shed a few tears over it and still nothing happened (which surprised her too) – she came up with a plan (finally!) – Lets do it in-house – YAY!!

All the commotion got Kit interested in the whole thing (she had no clue about it before this) – she was ecstatic that Mummy was going to do a project with her now…Kat always has an endless supply of coloured papers and pencils – she is our stationery cupboard. We made some cute little coloured heart shaped valentines for Kit’s class and Kit got so tired of writing that she could do only 5 at a time...it did take a while to finish the 20 cards!Heart Cards
Kat did her 27 pink hearts on red coloured paper with different messages for girls, boys and teachers (some patience she has!)

Then we had another BIG problem. Kat’s school had allowed candy to school on Valentine’s Day but Kit was not allowed. Kit made me promise that I would not allow Kat any candy and it broke my heart when I taped a Sour patch to each of Kat’s Valentine when Kit went to bed. (Things you have to do for peace at home!)

On Feb 14th, Kit and Kat got up excitedly and got ready for school – Kit was bubbling with excitement and wishing Happy Valumtimes Day to one and all. She even handed cards to Kat’s Bus Matron and lady Driver. It got her all ready for the day…this is the first time she has been so excited about Valentine’s Day...maybe next year she can even learn to pronounce it correctly!

Snowwhite 3D Sun Catcher Kit Kit Kat came back home with loads of Valentines from school (Kat even came back with chocolates which Kit does not know about), they both got a 3-D Sun Catcher painting kit from us and I got a surprise flowers delivery from them all!! Tinkerbell3D Sun Catcher Kit

It’s all about love...Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you. Hope you all had a wonderful Day!

The Unwanted Gift
Posted By SLK on Thursday, January 06, 2011   { 0 Comment(s) }
That time of the year is fast approaching when I just want to be a child again...dream of my perfect birthday – wait for my loved ones to wish me and feel extra special on my special day...of course the candles on the birthday cake are still one or two (space on the cake due to age constrictions!)

Birthday Gift When I was young, I would always gift my mother chocolates or sweets on her birthday as I knew she would instantly gift them back to me :-) so the following conversation between Kit Kat and Me at the dinner table should come as no surprise...

Kat: “Mummy, can I borrow $200 from you?”

Me: “What??!!” “Are you kidding me? You want to borrow $200 from me for my birthday gift? Forget it.”

Kat (visibly upset as she loves her money and can be often seen counting her notes in her spare time – she is SO looking forward to turning 13 and getting her own credit card – can’t wait!): “It’s ok – I’ll have to think of something else.”

This think of something else probably means that Kat will (easily) convince Papa to get an advance on her pocket money (for the rest of the year?) – In any case I can count on a decent card from her.

Now, Kit has been listening to this exchange between me and Kat and feels that she must contribute to my birthday. It’s a prestige issue now.

Kit: “Mummy, I really want to give you something on your birthday.”

Me (very touched): “It’s ok Kit. It’s very sweet but you can give with Kat together. (I get stares and glares from Kat!)

Kit: “No, I really want to give you something. Can I give you a toy that I DO NOT WANT?”

Me (taken aback): “Why would you do that?”

Kit: “Because if I give you something I want, then I will really miss it so maybe I should give you something that I do not like!”

Now, who can argue with that??

So as I get older (definitely not wiser) in the next few days, I look forward to receiving a mystery gift – will it be a battered toy or will it be teddy bear or a doll that needs lots of love?

As they say...it’s the thought that counts!

Happy Birthday Kit!

I am amazed that I have not written for over two weeks. In fact I am amazed that I have managed to get anything done except celebrate Kit’s birthday...YES! Pink cake, pink icing, pink everything...and Kit is now 4!

Such a long awaited, spreading over 2 weeks celebration finally ended with a grand finale this Sunday and Kit is already looking forward to her next one (I am aching from all the running around and of course belly hurts from all the yummy cake(s) – trying not to think about the endless miles on the treadmill!!)

There definitely is something magical about this age. The more I look at her, the more I want her to remain this age. The bond between the sisters is so tender now, especially because Kit is beyond the ‘find all, break all’ stage and Kat is so thankful for that!

Happy Birthday Kit

This birthday was the first time when Kat shelled out her pocket money to buy gifts for Kit. It was spent on two Barbie movies (Barbie dolls not allowed here but movies are ok), an Ariel colouring book, a Pinkalicious book and a magic wand (this last one was actually our gift but Kat made it ‘her’ gift – cheeky!)

This 4th birthday was also the first time we did something totally different – we did a birthday colour coded Scavenger Hunt! It was so much FUN – we hid all of Kit’s presents and she spent the first hour finding them and the look on her face when she discovered them one after the other was priceless...she insists we do the same next year :- )

Kit’s school made her birthday extra special too. They celebrated a ‘Celebrate Me’ Week in school for her and every day was so special for Kit. She took something from home to share with her class for circle time. One day was the Tooth Fairy Box, then her first baby clothes and our holiday scrap book. I got to do healthy breakfast with the class one day followed by a favourite story...and a class project another day. So exciting it all was - It never ceases to amaze me how teachers can cope with 18 children all of the same inquisitive, always hyperactive minds of 3-4 year olds...it was hard enough to simply be a guest reader for precisely 5 minutes!!

Birthdays are so special for little ones – I still love to spoil them on theirs. I remember how I used to love mine and was so depressed on the evening of my birthday thinking it would be another year before the next one...It is so true – you do see your own childhood reflected in your children – they do make all the nice things last so much longer. God bless!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIT FROM ALL OF US!
