You can get your pregnancy confirmed by a professional at most pharmacies, family planning centres or your GP's surgery. A positive or negative result is obtained by checking for the presence of the pregnancy hormone hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin) which is produced by the growing embryo about a week after conception (if you are pregnant). This hormone can be checked by testing either your urine sample or by carrying out a blood test. These tests are virtually 100% reliable and can detect pregnancy as early as seven to ten days after conception i.e. even before your perids would have been due.
