Nine Months : Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)
CHORIONIC VILLUS SAMPLING (CVS)
This test can be carried out as early as ten weeks and
involves extraction of a sample of the placental tissue for
study. It carries a 2-3% percent chance of miscarriage with
it and the risk of limb deformity in the baby increases if
the test is carried out before ten weeks.
CVS is used to test for genetic disorders and does not give
information about Spina Bifida.
CVS is offered to women with an increased risk of having a
child with
cystic fibrosis,
muscular dystrophy or other inherited disorders.
